The heart of Jacobins Convent
by Eliott Maintigneux
Rozenn Colleter and Fabrice Dédouit – respectively archeo-anthrolopogist and forensic doctor – of the medico-legal institute of Toulouse, have undertaken the autopsy of the archaeological findings of a search that took place between 2011 and 2013. Four lead casings, enclosing human hearts, were discovered at the Jacobins monastery in Rennes. The ensuing analysis revealed a peculiar funeral practice that was popular in the 17th century.
