Nîme’s oldest church
by Eliott Maintigneux
In Nîmes, north of the quartier des Amoureux, 130 graves have been discovered, dating from Antiquity and the late Middle Ages.
The archeologists working onsite have also discovered part of the foundations of a church re-built from monumental antique materials, probably originally constituting ancient mausoleums nearby. Dating approximately from the early 5th century, this church is the oldest christian edifice to be discovered in Nimes.
